"denigrate America"? America deserves all the blackening of reputation the truth can expose:
Another Aussie writer has shown just how black the USA is, in one short paragraph:
"In my lifetime, the United States has overthrown or attempted to overthrow more than
50 governments, mostly democracies. It has interfered in democratic elections in 30
countries. It has dropped bombs on the people of 30 countries, most of them poor and
defenceless. It has attempted to murder the leaders of 50 countries. It has fought to
suppress liberation movements in 20 countries."
- John Pilger - "Silencing the Lambs, How Propaganda Works" at Consortium News
The only limitation I would agree to is that America's reputation is due to the games of the rich far more than the blind participation of the rest of the population.
As for John Pilger, I’ve also cited his work, and have admired his contribution to fearless independent journalism and truth telling. Sadly though, it seems he’s on board with the official Covid narrative, and the Great Reset gambit. I don’t follow his work as much these days. But insofar as I can gather, he’s not stood up to be counted on this matter. He should’ve been first n the queue, and one of the most vocal in pushing back on the WEF/Gates/Fauci agenda. This stuff is right in his wheelhouse. G
Nobody gets it right on all topics. And I'll allow that certain truth-tellers might pull their punches on topics outside their normal expertise for reasons that we might not be aware of. Like Chomsky on 9/11. I hadn't seen Pilger say anything at all about the vaxscam, so I can't conclude what might be the matter.
Helena, 👍🙏 liked your metaphorical turn of phrase here. Gonna ‘steal’ it! Hope you don’t mind. 😘😉 Also, I’ve posted some links elsewhere in this thread to some of my previous articles. They might be of interest. Circulate as you see fit. 👍
PREAMBLE: The use of propaganda and censorship is more frequently associated with totalitarian, corrupt and/or despotic regimes, not modern democracies. Yet the history of how western governments and their ever-vigilant junkyard dogs in the media financial, and business spheres have controlled the political narrative of the time via these means is a long, storied and ruinous one, going back well before 1914.
Along with serving the contemporaneous political objectives of its perpetrators as contrived, such activities often continue to inform our understanding, and cement our interpretation, of history. If as the saying goes, “history repeats itself”, we need look no further than this as to the main reason why. In this wide-ranging ‘safari’ into the propaganda, disinformation, fake news, and myth-making wilderness—“The Big Shill”—Greg Maybury does indeed look further, and concludes that “It’s the narrative, stupid!”
“Whether we know it or not or like it or not, no matter how clever we think we are, or how mindful we might be of—and from that consciously resistant to—the pernicious effects of media propaganda and censorship, we’re all susceptible to the enervating forces they unleash, with complacency, arrogance, ignorance, and self-delusion being but a few of them.”— Greg Maybury

BRIEF: Since its establishment in 1851, the venerable New York Times has enjoyed one of the most enduring, iconic reputations of all the world’s leading newspapers. Of this few folks would be in doubt, including those who might be less enamoured of the so named “Old Gray Lady’s” unique charms. What’s less certain though is whether such ‘notoriety’ is still deserved after all these years; as heretical as it might be for the ‘faithful’ to contemplate, perhaps ‘her’ best days are past. In this two part series, Greg Maybury ‘spills some ink’ in the service of a higher truth about this self-styled bastion of journalistic integrity.

That one was before I sub'd, so, missed it. Looks well worth a read however.
If censorship can be adequately controlled, minimized, then positive, true propaganda can contest with negative, mendacious propaganda, and most of the time win. I've been planning a little essay to expand on that idea, but first, or rather next, a piece on time and astrophysics, inspired by the James Webb images.
alternatively... Bernays might be thought of more as a discoverer, inventor, ...scientist, and what was done with his discoveries was not (entirely) his fault. In the same way, we wouldn't blame Oppenheimer for the decisions of the military and Truman to use his work to nuke some Japanese women and children. In both cases, and many others, the discoveries could have been used for better ends.
Plenty of blame to go around. Nevertheless, reasonable people surely can use the discovery of a sociopath - or worse - for reasonable ends. Analogously, shall we denigrate, or even ban the work of an artist because he has behaved badly?
I used the example so as to show, in a more direct way, that whether Bernays was a jolly good fellow or a reprehensible cad has little or no bearing on who is to blame for the current state of affairs. As for wellbeing for all, I side with Lao Tzu in seeing that is simply not in the nature of things. Trivially, if all suffering were somehow eliminated, then the least happy among the survivors would then be the sufferers! Our exchange of ideas here much enjoyed!
The Great Promise of America is nothing more than your unwritten, unsigned and unknowing contract to sell your soul to the government. In the grand scheme of things, you may be able to exact some degree of prosperity as long as you play by their rules and do not cause any disruption to the underlying demand that you become their slave. Without this control, the government is powerless and that is something they do not allow...to be without unmitigated power.
As long as there is government, any government, you are enslaved to do its bidding. You may become prosperous by you are not free. Freedom lies in the nothingness which comes from being psychology unattached to whims of arrogant fools and despots...and that is the type of people who populate a government.
You cannot exercise individuality and free thinking inside of government. You will be kicked out if you rock the boat sailed by the good old boys (and girls) club. That is how they keep their wretched power.

Marvelous, it parallels my own experience. It was easy to fall in love with the concept of America, particularly if you followed the struggles to arrive at the founding and to really think through what good government might mean. John Adams however foresaw the eventual hollowing out of it. And, growing up in Europe (Netherlands) it was painful to watch the great liberators of WW2 become champions of nuclear armaments and at one point to take over a French colonial war in Vietnam under false pretenses. Reflections like yours help us hopefully refocus and perhaps a rebirth is within the possibilities, even if it is hard to see how from within the violence against the constitution that was perpetrated in the name of this fake Corona Pandemic.
Hmmm. It seems to me that U.S. forces did a minimum to liberate until it looked like the Russians were going to get there first. And an interesting film "JFK to 9/11 - Everything is a Rich Man's Trick" shows how America's rich financed Hitler's project, as if he and is buddies were the hired thugs that were supposed to take care of Communism once and for all.
The documentary, well worth a view, it is on youtube,

"In the years before he died in 2008, the playwright Harold Pinter made two
extraordinary speeches, which broke a silence.
“U.S. foreign policy,” he said, is
“best defined as follows: kiss my arse or I’ll kick your head in. It is as simple and as
crude as that. What is interesting about it is that it’s so incredibly successful. It
possesses the structures of disinformation, use of rhetoric, distortion of language,
which are very persuasive, but are actually a pack of lies. It is very successful
propaganda. They have the money, they have the technology, they have all the means
to get away with it, and they do.”
In accepting the Nobel Prize for Literature, Harold Pinter said this:
“The crimes of the United States have been systematic, constant, vicious,
remorseless, but very few people have actually talked about them. You have to hand
it to America. It has exercised a quite clinical manipulation of power worldwide while
masquerading as a force for universal good. It’s a brilliant, even witty, highly
successful act of hypnosis.”
